Lauren Conrad is the queen of throwing fun and festive soirées, so it makes sense that she’s on theme and on trend during the holidays. This year, she plans to make things extra special now that her one-year-old son Liam is “a little more aware of the [Christmas] holiday.”

But instead of hosting a grand party (like the ones we’d always see on The Hills), Conrad’s Christmas morning is a lot more laid-back than we imagined. Over the phone, the lifestyle and fashion designer told HelloGiggles the mini-tradition she and her family always do this time of year.

“We do Christmas morning at my in-laws’ house and my mother-in-law gets us all matching pajamas, which is really sweet. I think that’s one of the things about starting your own family, is that you create your own traditions.”

While she doesn’t know exactly what those traditions will entail with her husband William Tell and their son, she confessed they plan to “figure it out in the next couple of years.” One thing is certain, though. Now that her son is a bit older, she revealed Santa will be making a stop at their house (wink, wink).

“We’ll do Santa for the first time this year, or should I say, Santa will visit us, which is really exciting.”

For Conrad, it seems like things have come full circle. Last year, she created the Baby’s First Christmas ornament at Kohl’s, and this year she brought it back for her holiday décor collection. “We did one last year because last year was my baby’s first Christmas,” she said. “People really liked it, so we did a new version this year.”

On the topic of Christmas, Conrad also told us how she de-stresses during the holidays—especially after hosting a get-together. “I try not to make plans afterward. I think it’s important to block off some time for yourself so that you can actually enjoy all of the events,” she said. Compared to her old days of throwing parties on The Hills, she feels like she has mastered the art of hosting.

“I think I’m a little more organized as a host now. I think that with anyone, after years of entertaining, you sort of learn. Even just calculating how much food and how many beverages you want to have for guests, I think those kinds of things and little details make a big difference.”

Her best advice when entertaining guests? “A really important lesson is to know what you’re good at and what you’re not good at.”

“The ultimate goal of any event is to make sure everyone has a good time, and that you’re not stressed during your event. Because if you’re running around trying to do last-minute things and you’re stressed out about everything, I think your guests don’t have as much fun, so you want to be able to enjoy your own parties.”

If you don’t feel like hosting (and hey, we don’t blame you), but you still want to get into the festive spirit, Conrad shared the best way she makes her home “smell like the holidays.”

“One of the things about Christmas is the way your home smells. In the past, when I’ve done parties around the holidays, I usually do a bit pot of cider, which is basically apple juice with some cinnamon sticks and cloves, a couple of orange slices, but you simmer it for a couple of hours and your whole house smells like the holidays, which always helps to set the mood.”

With the holidays right around the corner, it’s only a matter of time before Conrad shares her matching pajama sets from her mother-in-law and her son’s first Santa experience. As for us? We’ll be taking note of her hosting and décor tips.

It sure is OUR favorite holiday. And Lauren Conrad isn’t one to not celebrate Halloween! She revealed her Halloween costume for this year.

I’ve designed many different Halloween costumes over the years, but they have mostly all had varying amounts of tulle and glitter in common. This year I wanted to depart from the cutesy costumes of Halloweens past and step into something a little more… spooky. Inspired the classic horror flick, I channeled my inner Hitchcock character and created my best Melanie Daniels from The Birds. As seen on the movie poster, my costume depicts the famous bird attack that leaves Ms. Daniels terrified and full of bird scratches. I even bribed a little birdie to stand in as my sidekick.

It’s safe to say that this little bird was way cuter than the ones attacking my character in the actual movie! Now let’s go trick-or-treating…

What are you dressing up as for Halloween?

Let me know your costume ideas in the comments!
